Trigon has gone back to its original referral policy regarding eye care.
The change is in response to criticism from the Medical Society of Virginia and some customers.
Now, patients can get a referral to an ophthalmologist directly from their primary care doctor-- without seeing an optometrist in between.
The Medical Society of Virginia had asked the State Corporation Commission to look into the policy before it was scrapped.
Ophthalmologists thought it violated state law by discriminating against them.
