An increasing trend of heterosexual transmission of the disease is also emerging.
For new AIDS cases last year, 43- percent were transmitted from men having sex with other men.
But heterosexual transmission is now the number two way the disease spreads in Virginia, at 20- percent of all new cases.
The H-I-V numbers, before full-blown AIDS develops, show an even smaller gap between transmission methods.
31- percent of new HIV reports in Virginia were homosexually transmitted.
23- percent were heterosexually transmitted.
The number of I-V drug user cases is declining in both columns.
