A Salem jury says a teenager who killed a schoolteacher while driving drunk must pay one point three million dollars to the dead woman's family.

That was the decision yesterday in a civil lawsuit filed by Gary Kitts.
Travis Lam was 16 when he smashed his car into 35 year old Bonnie Kitts in December 19-95.
He was convicted of drunken driving and involuntary manslaughter.
Lam is now a pre- med student at the University of Virginia.

Henry County authorities say they've solved a six-year old murder case.
Today, sheriff's deputies arrested David Deshazo of Franklin County.
They believe he killed Jerry McClendon back in 1992.
At the time, both were Navy servicemen stationed in Virginia Beach.

Deputies say Deshazo killed the victim in Virginia Beach-- then transported his body to this wooded area in Ridgeway, Henry County, using a U-haul truck.
The badly decomposed body was discovered in October 1992-- about a month after the murder.

Roanoke City police are looking for a suspect who reportedly raped a 35-year-old woman in her Northwest home early this morning.
Police say the suspect broke into the woman's Rugby Boulevard home through a basement window.
She was taken to Carilion Roanoke Community hospital after she was reportedly raped and beaten.

A Delaware judge has sentenced Amy Grossberg to two and half years behind bars for killing her newborn son.
Her former boyfriend Brian Petersen will also be sentenced today.
The former high school sweethearts orginally were charged with first degree murder but pleaded guilty to manslaughter earlier this year.
Their baby was found dead in a motel trash can two years ago.

Authorities in Southwest Roanoke say a mother and her neighbor tracked down a potential child molestor last night.


James Donald Buttner was arrested after police say he exposed himself to 3 girls, ages 3 to 5, in front of their Elm Avenue home around 8:30 last night.
Buttner reportedly offered the girls money if they would perform a sex act on him.
The girls told their mother, who was inside the house.
She and a neighbor chased and cornered Buttner inside of an area business until police arrived.

Spotters in helicopters located the illegal plants... and directed ground crews to them.

The Pittsylvania County sheriff's department conducts a drug search like this one every year.
