Six years after the body of a Navy shipman was found in Henry County, a Franklin County man has been arrested for his murder.

29-year old David (De-SHAY-zoh) Deshazo is charged with first degree murder in the death of Jerry McClendon.
McClendon was suffocated at his home near the Little Creek Naval Base in Virginia Beach in 19-92.
His decomposed body was found weeks later in a wooded area in southern Henry County.
Authorities say Deshazo moved the body from Virginia Beach using a U-haul truck.

The Henry County Sheriff's Office says clues uncovered just recently allowed them to make the arrest in this six-year old murder case.
Deshazo is being held in a Virginia Beach jail without bond.
Authorities say an arrest is pending for a female co-conspirator.

An American Airlines passenger jet, bound for Miami, made emergency landing with one engine on fire.
Only four passengers suffered minor injuries while exiting the plane on special ramps.

Meantime, Another American jet had to return to London's Heathrow Airport yesterday after the pilot shut down an engine when a warning light indicated an oil filter was flocked.
The jet was bound for Boston with 185 people on board.
It landed safely but a small fire broke out in the undercarriage during touch down.

Kevin Chittum and Tamara Rogers were driving to Salem last weekend with Chittum's sister, niece and two other boys in the back when they collided with a tanker truck.
The truck driver was also killed.

A Federal Appeals Court in Richmond has denied an appeal by a Bedford County man looking to avoid the death penalty.

Kenneth Stewart killed his wife and infant son.

He came close to being executed a couple of years ago for the murder of his wife Cynthia and his six-month-old son.

He won a stay so he could pursue more appeals, focusing on psychiatric testimony and jury instructions.
But in an opinion made public yesterday, the Fourth Circuit said Stewart has failed to come up with any new evidence regarding his mental state at the time of the murders.

A video photographer working with the T-V show "Cops" was accidentally shot by a police officer in Virginia Wednesday night.
The Chesapeake officer was pulling a shotgun from the trunk of a car when it discharged toward the ground.
Pellets ricocheted and hit the videographer in both legs.
He was treated and released from an area hospital.

Hundreds gathered in a Buena Vista church yesterday for the group funeral.
Saturday's accident on I-81 killed seven people, including an Augusta County truck driver who was buried Wednesday.

Last month Roanoke City COuncil said the star would no longer shine red after an alcohol or drug-related fatality.
