Two people were taken to the hospital--one apparently critically injured, following a single-car accident tonight.
It happened along the Blue Ridge Parkway near the Roanoke Overlook around 9:30.
Park rangers say a car ran off the road and dropped about 25 feet down an embankment.
A man and a woman in the car were both taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
According to parkway officials one of them suffered critical injuries.
Parkway police say it appears speed was a factor in the accident.

A suspected road rage problem turned into a major drug bust for state police today.
Officials received a complaint around 8:30 this morning from a truck driver along I-81 accusing two men in a car of harassing her.
Three hours later the two men were in jail on drug related charges.

29-year old Victor Duane Helm and 18-year old Carlos Renaldo Ivy were traveling southbound on I-81 when they apparently began harassing a female truck driver.
The woman called for help, and police caught up with the two men further down the road.

Police were forced to let the pair go, after the truck driver refused to press any charges.
But, authorities continued checking the background of the man who said he was an officer.

With the help of the Botetourt County Sheriff's Office, state police caught up with the two men again in Botetourt County.
Officers stopped them at a gas station, searched the car and found two zip lock bags full of crack cocaine and two smaller bags of marijuana.

A house fire on Campbell Avenue this morning injured two Roanoke firefighters-- one seriously.
The fire broke out around 4:30.
When firefighters arrived the house was fully engulfed.
Roanoke Fire Chief Jim Grigsby said a fireman was seriously hurt after the home's porch collapsed and fell on him.

The firefighter was taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital and is expected to fully recover.
Another firefighter suffered minor injuries.
The fire gutted the home that was vacant at the time.
An investigation is underway.
A seven-and-a-half hour standoff last night involving Christiansburg police ended with one man arrested.
Police arrived at the Smokey Ridge Apartments around nine p-m after getting a call from a woman who said a man held her underwater in the bath tub.
When police arrived, the man, armed with a shotgun, barricaded himself inside the apartment.
After negotiations failed, the
Montgomery County SWAT Team entered the building just after 4:30 this morning and arrested William Coleman.
He's charged with abduction, attempted malicious wounding and possession of a firearm as a convicted felon.
Danville police claim an eight-month old baby boy died after being left in a parked car for about four hours.
Authorities say Pamela Susan Walton of Milton, North Carolina, left her son Zakary in the car while she went to work just after eight yesterday morning.
When she returned around noon, the infant wasn't responding.
The baby was prounounced dead at a nearby hospital.
Police are still investigating.
A man whose body lay for years in the Tomb of the Unknowns, was laid to rest again today... under his OWN name.

The man known as King of the Cowboys was remembered in California today.

Hundreds of people came out to show their love and respect for Roy Rogers at a memorial service in Apple Valley this afternoon.
Rogers, who was suffering from congestive heart failure, died in his sleep Monday.
His wife, Dale Evans, and his family were with him.
Roy Rogers was 86.

Senators voted on a bill to reform the I-R-S this week and another one concerning Taiwan.
Here's how Virginia's lawmakers voted.

The Senate gave final approval to the new rules --

under which the Internal Revenue Service will have to operate.

The vote was 96 to two, with both Chuck Robb and John Warner endorsing the bill.

For the past 25-years, Hollins University has offered therapy to help people who stutter.
Today, the university dedicated the "Hollins Communications Research Institute".
The institute will still provide help for those with speech impediments.

The program has a better than average success rate. Over the first six to 12 months, about 90-percent of the participants stop stuttering. In the long term, about 70 to 75 percent.

Over the years, it has become one of the main stays in the community.
The service was once handled by local grocers who were just a few blocks apart.
All that's left of the first pilot post office are these pictures.

The Roanoke Wrath had a key game in the Atlantic division last night as the Northern Virginia Royals came to town.
The Wrath lined up on the field getting introduced before the start of the match.

The Royals would then get a chance as Rachid Mahboub rips the shot that just goes over the goal.

The marksmen stand 25 yards from the target and can only use one hand.
The competition has three stages.
