It was the first meeting for Lynchburg's newly- elected mayor and two new city council members.

First up was a plan to turn this home on Grace Street into a neighborhood education center that also will house a health clinic and day care facility.

Lynchburg police still are NOT sure of the identity of a man found inside a burning car Sunday.. they DO know he was murdered before the car was set on fire.

A grand jury today indicted a Montgomery County man accused of murdering a man and then disposing of his body, near Blacksburg.

Robert Crook, Senior is accused of shooting Michael Durham several times back in March.
The murder weapon has NOT been found.
But a witness who testified during last month's preliminary hearing said Crook shot Durham with what appeared to be a small handgun while they were riding down the road.
Durham's body was discovered several hours later by a passerby.
A trial date was set for September.

Going into yesterday's round the lead was shared by Lee Taylor and southpaw Scott Wise, who both shot one under par 70's at Blue Hills on Monday.
Wise who is seemingly still on fire after winning the Virginia State Golf Association Junior Match Play, fired a second round 72 yesterday to secure the championship with a two day even par total of 142.
Second Place was shared by Ryan Crush and Robbie Craft, both fired second round 75's to finish four back with two day totals of 146.
As for first round co-leader Taylor, he had a rough day on the links, he fires 79 to finish fourth with a total of 149.

News 7 sports has learned that the Roanoke Express has locked up its affiliation with the NHL New York Islanders and the AHL Lowell Lockmonsters.

Lowell director of hockey operations Greg Carvel confirmed yesterday that he and Lockmonster general manager Tom Lowe will be in Roanoke tomorrow morning for a 10:30 news conference.
Roanoke's affiliation with Lowell and New York is the result of tireless efforts by former Express coach Frank Anzalone, now an employee of the Islanders.
