A man is in custody and a woman has been hospitalized following an apparent domestic assault in Lynchburg this morning.

Emergency crews responded to 12-12 Floyd Street around 11 after a man called police to say he had murdered his wife.

The suspect.. whose identity has not yet been released.. surrendered without incident.
Police believe he used an aluminum baseball bat to beat his wife severely about the head.
The woman was transported to Lynchburg General Hospital where her condition is "not" known.
Police say the couple had a history of domestic problems.

Yesterday the U-S Supreme Court denied King's request for a stay of execution.
He is scheduled to die tonight for luring a Roanoke County real estate agent to a vacant home, then killing her in 1990.
Carolyn Rogers was beaten, choked, and stabbed.
King maintains that his wife killed the agent.
She was convicted of being an accessory after the fact.

Another Martinsville plant is shutting down, just a month after the DuPont closing left 500 people jobless.
This time, 117-people will lose their jobs at Owens Corning.
The news comes as Owens Corning enters what it calls a "strategic alliance" with Simonton Windows.
The West Virginia window manufacturer will start selling Owens Corning products.
An Owens Corning spokesman said the company will try to offer "support and guidance" to the laid-off workers.
The Martinsville plant will close September 30th.

State police say 40-year-old Rebecca Ann Braithwaite (Bray-thwaite) was thrown from her vehicle after she apparently lost control, hit a rock embankment and flipped several times.
It happened around four p-m near mile marker one-19.
Witnesses reportedly told police that Braithwaite appeared to be driving at a high rate of speed.
It was also raining at the time.
No one else was injured.

A U-S official confirms that Iran has tested a missile that can travel about 800 miles.
There's no word on the location of the launch or the landing.
Both took place inside Iran.
