But he worries about the Sudanese people.
Lawrence said the Sudanese live under the constant threat of terrorism from both domestic and international organizations.
And many times, he said, innocent people are hurt in terrorist attacks.
Lawrence hopes the U-S bombing of a suspected chemical weapons plant will eliminate part of the threat facing the Sudanese people.

Some members of Lawrence's church are planning another trip to the Sudan in the fall.
At 9:07 p-m Lance Antonio Chandler was put to death by lethal injection. At 25, he is the youngest person executed in Virginia since the 19-76 reinstatement of the death penalty.

That was one of the questions asked tonight at a public hearing in Brookneal-- prompted by a report that some fish may contain cancer-causing chemicals.

(( The public hearing at Brookneal Elementary was called by Delegate Ted Bennett-- in response to a 1994 study just recently released by the departments of health and enviromental quality.
The study found P-C-B's in certain fish caught in Halifax, Pittsylvania, Campbell and Charlotte Counties.
P-C-B's are potentially cancer-causing chemicals-- and people at the hearing wanted to know what took so long for fish warning.

A Franklin County judge says a Smith Mountain Lake developer must play by the rules.

John Robbins bought 42 lots next to Shoreline Marina on Route-949 and started to build one dock per lot.
Several times he showed his plans to county officials who said they looked OK, but never gave formal approval.
Robbins says he had spent 30-thousand dollars on development when the county suddenly required a special use permit for the docks.
The Smith Mountain Lake Four-H Center is planning a five-million dollar expansion to help children, adults, and the water quality at Smith Mountain Lake.
The site's already staked out for the nature education building, right near the lake so campers can test the water.

Governor Gilmore applauded the federal appeals court for its decision to uphold Virginia's law requiring teens to notify their parents before getting an abortion.

The man Halifax County authorities say shot and killed a mother of three nearly two weeks ago is back in Virginia.
44-year old Denny Coggins Melton of Semora, North Carolina, was arrested today for the murder of Rhonda Bowes Stone.
Stone was found dead in her Alton trailer August 7th.
Melton was picked up by North Carolina authorities two days after the murder on separate charges.
Death row inmate Earl Bramblett was once a suspect in the disappearance of two teen age girls from Roanoke.

But attempts to locate the remains of the two girls near Chamblissburg have turned up empty.
This week State Police dug up the foundation of a shed Bramblett built below the house he owned in the mid-70's.
Angela (Raid-ur) Rader and Tammy Akers disappeared in 1977 at age 14... after having spent a lot of time with Bramblett.

The brother of convicted Unabomber Theodore Kaczynski will receive one million dollars for turning him in.
The Justice Department spokesman announced the decision to award the money to David Kaczynski today.
