Prosecutors say 19-year old Derek DeWayne Smith was the triggerman in last August's robbery at Foster Fuels.
Smith shot store clerk Matthew Longerbeam in the head before fleeing the store without getting any money.
Doctors say it's a miracle Longerbeam survived the attack.
Smith was sentenced to 70 years in the prison.. his accomplice Rodney Keith Holland was given a 49-year term.

The second Pittsylvania County law official in a week was arrested yesterday on sex crimes charges.
25-year old Andre Lamont Barksdale of Chatham was arrested for having sex with a female inmate.
Barksdale was a jailer at the time the alleged sex acts occurred.
The sheriff's office says the victim is a minor over the age of 15.
This arrest comes a day after the arrest of a probation and parole officer.

Roanoke city officials say it's the biggest boost for downtown in almost eighteen years.

At a press conference yesterday morning, the mayor announced Carilion is transferring more than four hundred office workers to the First Union building on Jefferson Street.
The city is paying Carilion half a million dollars as an incentive.

This flue-cured tobacco has already been sold to processing plants.
Now warehouses must wait for plants to mature so farmers can harvest.

Robey says Johnson's media appearances will help his case if it comes down to a custody battle.
A spokesman for Paula Johnson's lawyer says the families have since smoothed things over.
So far all sides say they're working together in determining what's best for the children.
