The U-S bombings in Afghanistan and Sudan have the support of both Senators from the Commonwealth.
But there is mixed reaction from a local pastor who traveled to Sudan in March.

But he worries about the Sudanese people.

And many times, he said, innocent people are hurt in terrorist attacks.
Lawrence hopes the U-S bombing of a suspected chemical weapons plant will eliminate part of the threat facing the Sudanese people.

44-year old Denny Coggins Melton is charged with first degree murder for the shooting death of Rhonda Bowes Stone.

Stone was found dead in her Alton trailer August 7th.
Halifax County Sheriff's Deputies say the fatal shots were fired from OUTSIDE the home-- through a window that is now covered with paper.
Melton was picked up by North Carolina authorities two days after the murder on firearms charges.
Until his extradition yesterday to Halifax County, Melton had been held in a North Carolina jail.

Several times he showed his plans to county officials who said they looked OK, but never gave formal approval.
Robbins says he had spent 30-thousand dollars on development when the county suddenly required a special use permit for the docks.

A ten year old Salem boy charged with arson has been released from protective custody.

The boy accused of setting at least one fire at the Willow River apartment complex is now reportedly living with his grandmother in Tazewell.
Last week a judge denied a reuqest to let the boy live in a Roanoke County apartment complex.
The boy must be kept under constant adult supervision.
His arson trial is set for September 21st.

Fish from the Roanoke -Staunton River were the subject of discussion last night at a public hearing in Brookneal.
There has been some concern about whether it's safe to eat the fish following a report that some of the fish may contain cancer-causing chemicals.
