44-year old Thomas Lee Sands was found dead in his home on (Cal-inds) Callands Road near the Henry County line Sunday night.
An autopsy showed Sands was shot several times in the neck and chest.

Expansion plans are on track for a Bedford County nursing home after the County's Planning Commission approved the plans, despite opposition from residents.

Grand Ole Opry comedian (JAY'-ree) Jerry Clower, died yesterday after suffering a heart attack.
His death comes five days after heart bypass surgery.
Clower delighted audiences for more than 25 years with stories about rural Southern culture and the Ledbetter family.
Jerry Clower was 71.

The Internal Revenue Service has filed a lien against the assets of Giles County's Commonwealth's Attorney.

Roanoke County police say the incident occurred at Affordable Efficiency Inns which does not allow pets.

A federal appeals court says the government can't use statistical sampling to help count Americans when it conducts the census for the year 2000.
The court ruled that the nation's founding fathers wanted
an "actual enumeration" of the populace.
The judges said the modern statistical tool called "sampling" isn't a good enough substitute for that.
Arguments for and against the census had taken place in a Roanoke courtroom a couple of weeks ago.
