Blacksburg police say the truck's driver apparently did everything he could to avoid hitting the victim on Route 460.
If he wouldn't have swerved, police say the victim probably would have died.
The accident occurred shortly before 10-30.
Police have not released the identity of the victim at this time, nor do they know why the victim was in the roadway.

The Virginia attorney general has
assigned a special lawyer to look into the case at the University of Virginia Medical Center.

But Paula Johnson, the only living mother in the case, has hinted she might sue the hospital if it didn't offer a settlement.
Johnson is still waiting for the results of genetic tests to show
