The Health Department has lifted its warning against swimming in some parts of Smith Mountain Lake.

Police negotiated with Garnet by phone and coached him outside.
Police say he could be charged with threatening a police officer, but they are waiting for the results of a psychiatric evaluation.))

State Police say they've recovered the vehicle involved in a fatal hit-and-run in Pittsylvania County.
The 1973 black Ford pickup truck was found today at a residence in Ringgold.

34-year old Cynthia Faye White was struck and killed Tuesday night along State Route 360 in Keeling.
Her body was found yesterday morning.
The owner of the pickup truck says he was not driving it at the time of the accident.

Cressell's the second of two suspects to be tried for allegedly burning and beheading a black man in Grayson County, last summer.
Cressell's attorneys filed the appeal yesterday.
Cressell had been free on 150- thousand dollars bond after he was charged with first degree murder.
But when the charge against him was upgraded to capital murder several months ago, Cressell's bond was immediately revoked.
He's scheduled for trial in October.

One note from the ice. Roanoke Express head coach Scott Gordon will meet with former Express left winger Chris Cantu tomorrow afternoon at 2 at the Roanoke office.
Today Gordon said he hopes to sign Cantu to a contract, though he should get a try out in either the IHL or AHL.
In 52 games last year, Cantu scored 30 goals and registered 20 assists last season. He has a personal trainer and has gone from 185 to 200 pounds over the summer.
