Another baby-switching case reported at the University of Virginia Medical Center, this one involving a child who died.
(------------)
[VO-NAT]
[SUPER=@File;]
Mistie Fritz told the Washington Post her infant daughter died at the hospital from severe birth defects earlier this year.
When she went to the hospital to pick up the child's remains, the hospital gave her the wrong child's body.
The mixup was discovered before Fritz left the hospital.
Hospital officials blamed the switch on an employees failure to check the tags on the bodies.
Chief of Staff Thomas Massaro says the hospital is sorry about the mistake, but adds this case is fundamentally different from the case of Rebecca Chittum and Callie Johnson, who were switched at birth at the hospital three years ago.
