One man is dead, following a shooting early this morning in Northwest Roanoke.

It happened along the 400 block of Gilmer Avenue around 3-30 a-m.
When police arrived they found 20-year old David Wallace lying in the street with a gunshot wound to his chest.
Wallace died at the scene.
Witnesses told investigators Wallace got out of his car, was confronted by someone, and shot.
The suspect got away before police arrived.

The division three men run an eight K and women run a five K race. Roanoke College's course is unique because most of it is visible to spectors watching from the parking lot of the Salem YMCA.
Roanoke's next race is September 26th. At least six colleges will be participating in the Maroon Invitational.
