An accident yesterday killed two members of a Pulaski family, and left three others injured.

It happened near the intersection of Route 11 and Morehead Lane.
State police say the car ran off the road and hit a tree.
Three year old Jordan Smith and 21-year old Latoya Jena Brooks were ejected.
LaToya died at the scene. Jordan died moments later at the hospital.
An 18-month old child suffered internal injuries and is in stable condition at Columbia Pulaski Community Hospital.


Margie Brooks, the driver of the car and 9-year old Sabrina Hicks, a family friend, are also listed in stable condition.
The fifth passenger, Mary Brooks, escaped unharmed.

Two people died in a separate accident yesterday on Interstate 81 in Wythe County.
It happened near the mile marker 72, when a vehicle ran off the road and hit a guardrail.
Seventy-three year old Monroe Rathborne Junior and his wife Barbara were killed.

Police have charged Kenny Harrell of Newport News with shooting a firearm on school property.
The shooting happened early yesterday morning on Washington Street in front of a row of dorms.
Officials say campus police got a call about a group of students walking down the street shooting a gun.

In addition to criminal charges, Harrell's case will be reviewed by the school's judicial system which will determine if his actions violated university policy.

A virginia Tech basketball player has been suspended from the team for allegdly firing a gun on campus.

School officials say Kenny Harrell of Newport News was walking with some other students down Washington Street past a row of dorms across from Cassell Coliseum. Tech spokesman Dave Nutter says campus police witnessed Harrell pull a semi-automatic weapon from his pocket and shoot skyward. Nutter says The Newport News native faces felony charges of shooting a firearm on school property.

He's convicted in the 1990 capital murder of 19-year-old Leann Wittlock of Roanoke.

His lawyers say that information could have prevented Strickler from recieving a death sentence.
