Department of Education inspectors say the Wilderness Leadership Academy is filthy.
They say teachers do not have licenses, and parents are not always told when their children are in trouble.
Students also report being sexually assaulted by each other.
But in a closed hearing Monday, director Colonel Nervo promised to correct what he calls honest mistakes.
He refused to speak on camera -- but he testified he has a new staff training schedule, counseling services, and policies for calling police and parents.

It must hire someone to correct the problems.
And it must also submit to the Department a revised policy manual, complete restoration plans for the school, and a revised brochure that accurately describes the program.

The hearings officer says the academy reacted in a last-minute fashion and did NOT take aggressive action to correct its deficiencies.

((Auburn is on a mission to prove the critics wrong. After being picked to finish fifth out of 6 teams in the Three Rivers District, the lady eagles officially took flight Tuesday night when freshman Staci Humphrey scored the game winning basket with under ten seconds to play to beat perennial power Floyd County 70-69. ((:))
Tim Goetz returns just three varsity players from a 10 and 9 team last year. The lady Eagles attribute their respectable 7 and 4 record so far to a tough schedule early. ((:)) Although Floyd County lost to Auburn in it's district opener, count on the Lady Buffaloes to be ready for the long hall. At 8 and 4, all but two of their 12 games have been against double A teams.
Shawsville is 10 and 2. Senior Megan Forester is averaging 18 points a game and the lady Shawnees are 2 and 1 against double A schools.
Last but certainly not least are the defending state champion Lady Highlanders, Glenvar might be 6 and 5, but a brutal double A schedule should prepare Brian Harvey's troops down the stretch.
Speaking of double A, Salem has quietly built a 10 and OH record and is perfect so far in the Blue Ridge at 4 and OH. ((:))
With two starters and five varsity contributors back, reaching the state semi finals a season ago just isn't enough for Salem.

Dick Blaney brought his 800 pound monster to the Cumberland County fair yesterday.
The pumpkin easily won this year's blue ribbon.
Blaney says it just takes good seeds and good ground to grow such a big pumpkin.
No one's sure what will happened to his extra large produce.
It could be turned into a giant jack o lantern or a whole lot of pumpkin pies.
