A Roanoke man is dead tonight after being shot at a home in Southwest.

Authorities identfied the victim as 60 year old Jimmy Lee Penn of Roanoke.

The family of Hugh Finn today removed the man's feeding tube- which will ultimately mean death for the former Television Newsman.
The state goes to court first thing tomorrow morning to try to save Finn's life even over the families wishes.

Finn has spent three and half years in a persistent vegetative states.
State law allows withholding of food and water from people in such a state.

The judge refused.

For the first time in Carroll County history, D-N-A evidence has led to a conviction.

This evening a jury found Tisha Howard guilty of 2nd degree murder in connection with the death of an elderly Galax man.
79-year-old Willie Goins was stabbed 21 times in September of 1996.
Investigators say Howard confessed to the crime, but D-N-A evidence bolstered the case.

A member of the cadet corps at Virginia Tech is one of nearly 200 suspects in 18 different countries--part of an alleged INTERNATIONAL child pornography ring.
A search warrant executed a month ago- -but UNsealed only today- -identifies Cadet Mark Cowley as a member of the "Orchid Club."
U-S Customs officials say it's a group that chats on the internet about molesting children and trades pornographic images of children.
One of those busted by the British National Crime Squad had a collection of 42-thousand child pornographic pictures.
Cadet Cowley remains enrolled at Tech. No charges have been filed against him.

A rare log cabin has a new lease on life.

The building had been condemned and was set to be demolished by today... until a band of conservationists and historical preservationists stepped in to help shore up the building.
That was enough for the prosecutor to drop the case, so the judge dismissed it.
The cabin is a long way from being saved, though. It still needs a roof... at least some type of temporary (tar-phew-lin) tarpaulin to keep the elements from destroying it.

In our Extra Point former Lynchburg Met, and current New York Yankee Darryl Strawberry will undergo surgery this weekend to have a cancerous tumor removed from his colon.
Doctors say his prognosis for a full recovery is excellent.
His best friend Eric Davis of the Orioles had a similar surgery last year.
