A Roanoke man died after he was hit by a truck early this morning in Blacksburg.

The victim was 20-year-old Myaish (my-EESH) Eubanks.
He was heading east on the 460 bypass about 3:45 this morning, when his truck ran off the road, struck a guardrail and overturned.
The crash threw Eubanks into the westbound lanes.
He was then hit by another truck, driven by Thomas Roddenberry of Blacksburg.
Police say Eubanks died at the scene. A passenger in Eubanks truck suffered minor injuries.
Neither man was wearing a seat belt.
Police have not filed any charges.

Barbara Anderson is accused of murdering 88-year old James Beane.
Beane was apparently beaten to death with a fireplace poker.
Anderson's court appearances were postponed several times after she was found mentally unfit to stand trial.
Friday, her attorney claimed she had recovered.
The next hearing in the case is scheduled for November 13th.

He's been in a "vegetative state" ever since.

But, today the governor said if a situation similar to Finn's comes up again, he would probably take the issue to court again.

Actor Roddy McDowall is being remembered as a kind and wonderful person.

When the Timber Lake dam collapsed in 1995, homeowners in that Campbell County subdivision were stuck with a million- dollar repair bill.
The problem is not everyone volunteered to pay their fair share.
Some felt creating a Watershed Improvement District would solve the problem.. that issue was put to a vote today.

Meanwhile, Johnson is also taking her cause to Capitol Hill.
She recently went to Washington, DC in support of Texas Democrat Sheila Jackson Lee's bill.
That bill threatens to withold funding from hospitals that don't prevent parents from leaving with the wrong baby.
The bill also imposes a fine and jail time for people who destroy identification records or purposely misidentify a baby.

Economic development groups in Virginia are urging voters to back two changes to the state constitution in the November election.
But Governor Gilmore wants voters to reject those two amendments.

Amendment four deals with the long-term debt localities may face in economic development agreements. It would exempt this type of debt from the limits now imposed on localities.

Citizens were invited to drive a police cruiser, ride the police bikes and tour the building.

((Having Roanoke's back bone, goalies's Dave Gagnon and Daniel Berthiaume, intact will help balance out number of new faces. The 1998 Express's opening practice was all about new. New Head coach Scott Gordon already put in a new trap on the first day. Offensively, Roanoke fans will wrest a little bit easier knowing scorer and forward Chris cantu is in camp. ((:)) Many familar faces are in camp, like Pete Bearly, Travis Smith, Jeremy Schaeffer and Tim Christian. Fiery center and bigtime hitter Mike Peron is back and his shoulder injury is all but a distance memory thanks to a beef up summer program. ((:))

The Cleveland Indians have advanced to the American League championship series against New York with a 2 to 1 win over Boston.

The Red Sox were in a must win situation in yesterday afternoon's game.
And Boston took the lead in the bottom of the fourth. Nomar Garciaparra takes this pitch deep over the right centerfield wall for a solo homer and the Red Sox led 1 to nothing.
But Dave Justice put the Indians in the lead in the

top of the 8-th hitting this two run double to right centerfield and Cleveland holds on for the 2 to 1 win.

The Braves were going for the sweep in Chicago against the Cubs.

And the Man Greg Maddux was on the hill for the Braves.
In the top of the third Maddux doubled to centerfield then he scored from third on the passed ball by Cubs Catcher Tyler Houston giving the Braves the one to nothing lead.
The Braves blew it open in the top of the 8-th.

Mike McLaughlin's pit crew gambled on gas mileage and it paid off McLaughlin winning the All Pro Bumper to Bumper 300 at Charlotte.

McLaughlin made his move with over 100 laps to go and when his pit crew decided to go for track position he remained on the track during a caution.
And McLaughlin had enough gas and power to hold on and win the Bumper to Bumper 300 for his fifth career Busch win.
