Fire broke out at Carilion Community Hospital yesterday afternoon, leaving employees and patients unharmed, but in the dark.
Heavy damage was reported to the transformer that started the blaze- which cut off power to about half of the building and closed the E-R.
David Johnson reports.

(( The fire began in a boiler room on the ground floor of the east wing.
Before the smoke could make its way through the hospital, officials had evacuated the first and second floor.
Smoke rose from the ground level up to the tenth floor.
Where the blaze started is what caused problems for firefighters from the start.

Once A-E-P cut off the power, the fire was quickly extinguished.
Dr. William Pasley was one of nearly 60 employees and 10 patients evacuated.
The physician says he's never seen anything like it in his 24 years.

No one was injured in the fire and emergency crews were on hand to care for those who needed it.
Hospital officials say it's been some time since something of this magnitude has happened at the hospital.

Strickler is on death row for the 1990 murder of Salem native Leann Whitlock.
He claims prosecutors withheld evidence during his trial that might have prevented him from getting the death penalty.
Strickler's execution HAD been set to be carried out last month ...before the court intervened.

Bedford County authorities say skeletal remains found last week near Moneta are that of a Shenandoah County resident wanted in connection with a stolen car and abduction.
Authorities believe 26 year old Robert Philip Turner ditched the car in Bedford County and then killed himself.

Jeffries' body was discovered in a bed inside his Slade Street home Sunday afternoon.

Virginia Tech police say Worch and a group of fraternity members called a Roanoke escort agency.

A guilty plea in Montgomery County from the former Shawsville wrestling coach charged with having consensual sex with three female students.
Two of the girls attended school in Shawsville.

The 35-year old man has already pleaded guilty to having sex with the girl in Wythe County, as well as Smyth County where her parents lived.
