An earthquake struck central Virginia today. It may be unusual, but it's hardly a first for the area.
The quake hit around two o'clock this morning, shaking houses and rousting residents from their beds.
[Take Earthquake Map--ss#1000]

It was centered near Farmville, on the Buckingham- Prince Edward County line.
It was felt as far away as Richmond.
Steve Smallshaw talked with Central Virginia residents today.

Steve, how are they taking it?
Pretty well, Keith.. this was a mild tremor.. about 3- point- 3 on the Richter scale.. but it was strong enough to shake the local grapevine.

No explosion, no plane crash.. just a mild earthquake that bounced folks from their beds, cracked a few dishes and rattled some windows.
