Flames broke out in Franklin County this afternoon, destroying a 100-year-old farmhouse and three other buildings.

The fires started at about 3:30, on Edwardsville Road in the Hardy section of the county.
Firefighters from Stewartsville, Burnt Chimney and Boones Mill did their best, but the buildings were destroyed.


Officials aren't saying what started the fire, but they do believe it was an accident.

Agents with the Department of Transportation, the F-B-I and Virginia State Police seized several boxes of material from the K-and-C Trucking Company near Lynchburg.
A D-O-T spokesman would only say inspectors with the Motor Carrier Safety unit executed a federal search warrant on the property.
Those inspectors enforce federal safety regulations such as driving hours, commercial licenses and equipment safety.

No arrests were made and no one at K-and-C could be reached for comment.

On a bright sunny day in Manhattan the fans in the "Big Apple" honored the World Series champion New York Yankees.

Yankee fans lined the streets to honor the World champions two days after sweeping the Padres in the World Series.
Yankee Manager Joe Torre joined the mayor of the city on the lead float as ticker tape came from the sky. Darryl Strawberry, along with his wife was not far behind. Strawberry missed the championship while recovering from colon cancer surgery.
The Yankees won 125 games on the season.

It could cruise down the road at a top speed of 45 miles per hour and got more than 13 miles to the gallon.
Henry Ford said that customers could buy the Model T in any color, as long as it was black.
Over 15 million Model T's were built until 1927.
