When the fire broke out, many surivors thought it was an act of retaliation for the death of Kevin Jones, shot by Willie Caldwell just a few hours earlier... Caldwell argued self defense and last month a jury found him NOT guilty of murder.
Prosecutors aren't saying if there's a connection... but evidence from Caldwell's trial played a part in the indictments.

A Halloween fight ends in an apparent murder in Pittsylvania County.
37-year old Kenneth Waddell Carter died early this morning at Danville Regional Medical Center.
He was taken there Saturday night after suffering a puncture wound to the left thigh.
He received the fatal injury during a party in Chatham that got out of hand.

A Grayson County judge today threatened to jail one of the prosecution's key witnesses in its case against Emmett Cressell, Junior.

Employees said the man took out a long-barreled gun, threw a bag on the counter and told the teller to fill it with money.

Salem and Martinsville continue to hold down the top of the Group Two-A poll. Heritage, which plays Jefferson Forest this week is fifth, and Lebanon is 10th.
Floyd County jumps in the Group-A poll this week. Powell Valley remains a solid number 1 at 9-and-0.

Former Glenvar state champion runner Trish Nervo, who is now a junior at the University of North Carolina and one of the top cross country performers in the ACC.
Nervo had an outstanding run today as she finished second overall. She completed the 3 point one mile course in 17 minutes and 17 seconds.
Nervo is also an all-ACC performer for the second straight year.

In one other UVa note, the surgery to repair the torn ligament in Anthony Poindexter left knee that was originally scheduled for today has been postponed until this Friday.
He is expected to be out the rest of the season.

Off the field and in the jail house!
Kerry Collins was pulled over Sunday night in downtown Charlotte and charged with driving under the influence.
Collins was taken to the Mecklenburg County jail where he signed autographs, posted a one thousand dollar bond, and flew back to New Orleans.
He is scheduled to get his first start in 2 weeks.

They all broke world records over the weekend in China. The six-year old girl managed to skate underneath a bar just five-and-a-half inches above the ground. That breaks the world record of just over six inches. And a technician from Shang-hai is now the world's fastest beer drinker after downing over a pint of brew in less than four seconds. But the most dangerous record attempt came from a man who swallowed ten swords.
A Kungfu master managed to break the previous record of swallowing six swords. Guinness World Records has sponsored the event in Shanghai since 1992.
