The jury also found him NOT GUILTY on charges of armed burglary and using a fire arm in the commission of murder.
The prosecution contended the killing happened as a group of men, including Stephens, tried to rob the victim of drugs and money.
While Stephens may have been in on drug activity that led to the shooting, the jury ultimately believed he was NOT there when it happened.

The Keydets open their season on Saturday against Elon. But last night they got an eyeful of former UNC Wilmington star Mark Byington and former UVa tight end Walt Derey.
Hey Derey played football at UVa, but don't forget the man was a force inside at Northside taking the Vikes to the state tournament.
But VMI wanted this game to get its fast paced offense in gear, and it got that and more. Nick Richardson scores for the Keydets, but former Hokie Troy Mann beats VMI back in transition for the layin.
The Keydets did a good job of getting loose inside last night. Freshman Aaron Tromblay, who has a 6-10 brother who will also be at VMI next season, gets the board and the score.

And Matt Matheny, the former Cave Spring bomber nails a three from the wing for three of his 19 and VMI beats Team Prestige 101-to-92.
