It's a felony to burn a cross in Virginia.
But now a black attorney is leading a challenge to that law, contending that burning a cross is a protected form of free speech... or ought to be.
(------------)
[VO-NAT]
[SUPER=04-File;]

Many states prohibit cross-burning on the grounds that it's a form of ethnic intimidation, a hate crime, or both. In Hillsville today there's a case challenging Virginia law.
If the challenge is successful, it could have an impact well beyond the state line.
