The holiday weekend ended tragically for three people in Halifax County.
43-year old Cecil Ray Butler died today.
He reportedly lost control of his car and crashed into a tree along Route 344.
Yesterday, 46-year old Margie Malloy and her mother, 65-year old Martha Malloy, died after they ran a stop sign then collided with two cars.
That was at the intersection of Routes 40 and 501.
There were also reports this weekend of several
cars breaking down...leaving motorists relying on the Virginia Department of Transportation for help.

For motorists whose vehicles have failed them this weekend, a safety service patrol was available to offer help.

This safety truck was one of four monitoring Interstate-81 and I-581.
The helping hands patroled between Montgomery County and the Botetourt County area, and out to Franklin County.
They come equipped with gas, diesel fuel, an air compressor and other aids to help distressed travelers.

V-Dot also took down construction work zones to open up more lanes of traffic to keep motorists moving along.
Still it's not been determined how much that helped pick up the pace.

Floyd County officials reportedly plan to reclaim an old prison, which at one time was going to be a boot camp.

Rebound Programs bought the facility in June of last year to make it a boot camp for boys.
But, community opposition convinced the company to drop its plans.
Floyd County officials are reportedly paying 85-thousand dollars for the site and plan to stop any other correctional facilities from being built there in the future.
President Clinton gave few "yes" or "no" answers to the 81 questions posed by the House Judiciary Committee.
And now many congressmen including a Southside Virginia representative want to hear more.
They say Clinton should testify, on national T-V, in front of the committee.
Congressman Virgil Goode has questions about what the President said under oath.

If Exxon acquires Mobil, it would be the richest corporate buyout in American history.

It was making a return trip to Norfolk after taking more than 100-people to Blacksburg on Friday.
The first state speaker of the House from Norfolk since 1792 helped organize the trip.

Members of a Roanoke County church are helping the Salvation Army
bring the joys of Christmas to poor children in the area.
Winsdor Hills Methodist Church held a doll dedication during its morning service today.
The Salvation Army provides the church with nude dolls.
Then church members make fancy clothes for the dolls and return them to the organization.
Most of them are distributed to less fortunate youngsters.

The church is one of several contributing to the project.
Church members dressed more than 200-dolls this year.
During the dedication ceremony, the dolls are blessed before being shipped out to their new homes.
