For the first time since 1955, a Virginian heads one of the four major Senate committees.
John Warner was elected chairman of the Armed Services Committee yesterday.
Warner has been on the committee for some two decades.

A citizen advisory council has recommended a 44-percent increase in the pay of state legislators.
The panel -- headed up by former Governors Holton and Baliles -- says lawmakers' annual salary should go from 18-thousand to 26-thousand dollars.
The panel's also recommending increasing the daily pay for out-of-session meetings, and the office expense budgets of the lawmakers.

Kroger says it wants to focus it's attention on it's retail stores, so it's selling it's Roanoke County distribution center.
The center will still serve more than a hundred Kroger stores, but workers will have a new boss.
New Jersey based CSI Retail Services will own the facility, and Iowa-based Ruan (roo-ANN) Transportation Services will manage the trucks.
