Bluefield area residents go to the polls today to elect a new state senator.
A special election is being held to fill the seat of Democratic Senator Jackson Reasor.
It's a three-way race featuring Democrat Phillip Puckett, an insurance agent -- Republican Roger Rife, a high school coach -- and independent Jerry Ward, a retired coal miner turned evangelist.
No matter who wins, Republicans will maintain control of the senate, which was 21 to 19 favoring the G-O-P before Reasor resigned.
