The nightmare is over for a Southside community after an armed fugitive throws in the towel.
It took six days, but police got their man in Henry County.
[from "tape 1"]
Clyde Howard Junior turned himself in this morning.
He hid out in the woods near Spencer since Tuesday.
That's when police say he shot to death a 56-year-old farmer, after stealing a car in North Carolina.
When Howard gave himself up, it almost caught police off guard.
They were bracing for a shootout, after Howard swore he would not be taken alive.
As Scott Goldlberg reports, it was a tired, cold and hungry Howard who decided to give up the chase.
