Franklin County investigators are searching for the car of a Roanoke man found dead over the weekend.

24-year old Wesley Smith was discovered in a field just a couple of miles west of Ferrum College. He was last seen in his 1995 Mercury Tracer just hours before he was beaten to death, presumably with an aluminum baseball bat. A Roanoke woman charged with the murder of her baby has been arrested in North Carolina.
Crystal Denise Johnson was picked up today in Greensboro. Roanoke police would NOT say how she was caught, or when she'll be brought back to the city for trial.

One central Virginia lawmaker wants to take would-be pedophiles "off line" by making it a felony to possess child pornography.

Lynchburg delegate Kathy Byron's proposal would increase the penalty for possession from a 500 dollar fine to up to five years in prison.
Byron also wants to require anyone convicted of possessing child pornography to register as a sex offender.

Sheriff's deputies around the state are keeping their fingers crossed.
For the first time in 20-years, they may be looking at a major pay raise.

Governor Gilmore has proposed a nine point three percent pay raise for ALL county deputies.
The governor's proposal must still be approved by lawmakers.
But a spokesman with the Virginia Sheriff's association says he doesn't expect any major hurdles since the proposal has strong bipartisan support.
Montgomery County Sheriff Doug Marrs says a raise would make a world of difference.
He says it's tough to hire and keep qualified applicants because neighboring police departments offer higher salaries.
