One woman is dead and two children are in critical condition after a car crash in Pittsylvania County.

State police say Evelyn Edmonds of South Boston lost control of her car on state route 729, skidded off the road and into a tree. She was thrown out of the car and killed.
Three children are hospitalized.
Police say the accident was NOT weather-related.

A Charlottesville man has turned himself into authorities after a shooting left a Nelson County man in critical condition.
Michael Wayne Mawyer was arrested yesterday at the Nelson County Sheriff's Department and charged with malicious wounding in connection with the Wednesday morning shooting of Jacob Burley.
Police said Burley was shot four times in the chest and abdomen.
Mawyer was released on bond.
