There's a major water main break in Roanoke to report this morning.
The break is near the intersection of Brandon and Brighton.
Customers along Brandon Avenue between Main Street and Blemnheim are without water.
It could be as many as six hours before the get it back.

That's the news from school districts across Virginia following the first round of testing on the Standards of Learning.
Just two percent of Virginia's public schools have pass rates that meet the new standards for accreditation.

A Northwest Airlines plane skidded of the runway at Port Columbus airport Friday night.
None of the 80 passengers or crew members were injured.
The plane was arriving from Minneapolis and was not damaged.
Investigators are checking to see if weather was a factor.

Yesterday's icy weather is responsible for at least one death in our area.
A South Carolina doctor was killed in a Campbell County accident caused by a patch of ice.
Police say Russell Lee Vanord's van spun out of control when he hit the ice on Route 29 yesterday.
He lost control and hit a tree.
He died later at Lynchburg General Hospital.
Vanord's wife-- Joan-- is in serious but stable condition this morning.

The recall notices went out before Halloween, but hundreds of local children have waited months for their "Power Wheels" to be repaired.

Commonwealth Shaver and Appliance Service Company is the only store in the Roanoke area repairing the Power Wheels vehicles.
But, after the recall was announced repair kits from the manufacturer were slow in coming until now.
The repairs are relatively simple and involve replacing a few wires and connectors.
But, they can only be made by trained workers who says it's worth the wait considering the risk.

And a little pricey too.

Alright we are all ready to bake it. 30 minutes at 350 degrees.
WHEN YOU PULL IT OUT PUT SOME PARMEASEAN CHEESE ON TOP AND LET IT COOK FOR ANOTHER 10 MINUTES AND THAT IS IT.
AfteR 45 minutes of stiumulating conversation. You are ready to dive into this stuff.
YEP AND SERVE IT WITH A SALAD AND YOU HAVE EVERYTHING YOU NEED FOR A MEAL.
Ummmm the tomatoes on top make it really good.
YEAH I LIKE IT BETTER THAN SAUCE BECAUSE YOU USE SAUCE FOR EVERYTHING AND THIS GIVES IT A LITTLE DIFFERENT TASTE.

Commonwealth Shaver and Appliance Service Company is the only store in the Roanoke area repairing the Power Wheels vehicles. Trained workers have been busy making about 60 repairs a week. The "Power Wheels" were recalled because the vehicle could catch on fire.

17-year old James Sutphin has been convicted of SECOND-degree murder in the shooting death of Keith Sandifer last June. Sutphin said he fired the gun in self-defense but it wasn't pointed at the victim during the altercation. The jury was in deliberation for three and a half hours.

President Clinton's impeachment hearing will begin next week in the Senate. Senators have agreed to move the trial forward in a bipartisan spirit. A summons was delivered to the White House yesterday seeking a response to perjury and obstruction charges against President Clinton. The White House will have 24-hours to present their defense.

That's because a water main pipe split in half near the corner of Brandon and Brighton early this morning. Utility officials say homes between Main Street and Blenheim Road are without water. The cause has not been determined. Crews are working to get the situation under control.

In Roanoke City Court yesterday evening, a jury convicted a 17-year old of SECOND- degree murder.

James Sutphin was out-numbered in a fight outside a Roanoke nightspot last June.
He admitted he had a gun, but said it was fired in self-defense and that it wasn't pointed at Keith Sandifer.
The 22-year old victim died of a single gunshot wound to the chest.

A Franklin County woman and her ex-boyfriend have been convicted of abusing the woman's 19-month old son.
Last summer Rebecca Deal and William Roy Ingram took the bruised and bite-mark covered boy to an area hospital.
Now a judge has convicted Deal of child neglect and Ingram of maliciously causing bodily injury.
Deal faces up to five years in jail while Ingram faces up to twenty years.
They'll be sentenced on February 19-th.

Roanoke City fire fighters battled at blaze for more than three hours last night.

The fire broke out around 7-15 yesterday evening at a house near the corner of Elm Avenue and Second Street.
Officials believe the fire started in the basement then spread throughout the building.
Officials say the home was abandoned.
No word yet on how the fire started but officials are still investigating.

Virginia Trooper Tim Rice was on his way from the car to the plane to meet the Governor.
Gilmore's spokesman says Rice reached through the window to try to restrain the thief -- then fired off some warning shots, and two gunshots at the car as it sped away.
Yesterday afternoon, the stolen rental car led Las Vegas police on a high speed chase.
It ended in a multi-car crash.
The only fatality is believed to be the driver of the Governor's stolen car.

They're not sure how the 48-year-old trucker died or when it happened.
