This is something you will not see anywhere else in the world.
Custom-blending Charles of the Ritz face powder... and the one-of-a-kind Louise Orr.
You see, Louise Orr has been selling Charles-of-the-Ritz...
[ sot T1 04:04:31]
((EVER SINCE 1927. 71 YEARS.))
... and she has the company's entire supply of custom-blended face powder at her store in Richmond, Virginia.
[ sot T1 04:05:55]
((A LOT OF THE GIRLS THOUGHT IT WAS TOO TIME CONSUMING. THEY DIDN'T REALIZE THAT THEY HAD SOMETHING THAT NO ONE ELSE HAD. AND THAT YOU BLEND THE POWDER, BUT YOU'RE SELLING THE TREATMENT BEFORE, SO THAT THAT POWDER WILL DO MORE BEAUTIFUL WORK.))
[NAT SOT T2! 04:36:57 HANDS]
((THIS IS CORAL. THAT'S PRETTY.))
But don't think Louise Orr is stuck in the past.
[ sot T1 04:02:55]
((WE HAVE A NEW PRODUCT CALLED BRIGHTENING FACE AND EYE HYDRATION. AND YOU PUT THIS ON-- IT GIVES YOU A YOUNGER, LIGHTER, BRIGHTER LOOK. IT GIVES A GLOW.))
So how did this career of a lifetime begin?
[ sot tape one 03:58:39]
((IT JUST HAPPENED. I WAS FINISHED HIGH SCHOOL IN BRISTOL, TENNESSEE. AND MY UNCLE HAD NO MONEY TO GO TO COLLEGE. SO MY UNCLE GAVE ME A JOB IN HIS STORE -- THE FINEST STORE BETWEEN KNOXVILLE AND ROANOKE.))
[ sot T1 03:59:10]
((THEY SENT ME TO MILLER AND RHOADS DOWNTOWN. 1937. AND WAS THERE 53 YEARS. WENT THEY WENT OUT OF BUSINESS I WENT ACROSS THE STREET TO THALHIMER'S. THEY WENT OUT OF BUSINESS. THEN I WENT TO REGENCY SQUARE.))
Then to Leggett, which became a Belk, which became a Dillard's.
Now she ships to a loyal product base around Virginia --and beyond.
[ sot t1 04:007:10]
((I'LL HAVE SOME PEOPLE CALL FROM LONDON, SOME FROM GERMANY. AND THEY'LL ORDER SOMETIMES SIX BOTTLES AT A TIME BECAUSE THEY CAN'T GET IT OVER THERE.))
On the day we visited her, she was selling products she didn't even have in stock.
[ NAT sot T1 03:53:11]
((I DON'T HAVE IT BUT I'LL GIVE YOU A SAMPLE. hahahaha! YOU'RE TRYING TO SELL ME SOMETHING YOU DON'T HAVE?))
It's not just a job, it's a passion.
