Embezzlement is the charge against a member of the Giles volunteer rescue squad.

Donna Lynn Thomas is accused of stealing nearly 95-hundred dollars in bingo money from the rescue squad.
Officials notified the sheriff's department after a routine audit detected money was missing.
Thomas has been suspended from the squad pending the outcome of the case.
A squad official says members are dedicated and that he hopes the community doesn't judge the squad for the alleged actions of one person.

A former V-M-I football coach will not get his day in court.

A Rockbridge County judge yesterday threw out Bill Stewart's million dollar lawsuit.
Stewart was forced out two years ago, after he was accused of using a racial slur against one of his players.
He claimed the way V-M-I handled his firing was wrong.
But the Judge said V-M-I officials told Stewart he was in trouble, and Stewart had the opportunity to ask for a hearing, but did not.

Bad behavior on-- and off-- the ice has resulted in huge suspensions for Hampton Roads coach John Brophy and Admirals player Jeff Corbett.

Brophy recieves a six game suspension for both his antics off the ice-- pushing Roanoke City Policemen and Roanoke Civic Center security-- and his inability to control his team on the ice.
He will serve four games of his suspension now and will miss the final two games the Admirals play against Roanoke. He will not even be permitted in the building during those games.
The Admirals Jeff Corbett will serve a 15- game suspension for the shot on Roanoke's Jeremy Schaeffer.
He will also sit out tthe final two games of the regular season against Roanoke, and will not be alllowed to play in any playoff games against the Express.
Roanoke's J-F Tremblay will serve a two game suspension for an obscene hand gesture and for derogatory comments made to the Admirals in between periods outside the locker room.

An alleged leak to the media has led former Giles County supervisor Bobby Williams to file a million- dollar lawsuit against Carilion Giles Memorial Hospital.

The lawsuit centers on an incident one year ago in which Williams attempted suicide after a grand jury indicted him on wiretapping charges.
Williams is suing the hospital for allegedly releasing his medical condition to the news media.
He also claims the hospital went against his wishes by not immediately transferring to another nearby hospital for treatment.

The amount is what the county said Shelor Automotive owed for the merchants capital tax, penalties and interest for 1997.
The tax is levied against a business' unsold merchandise at the end of the year.
Shelor refused to pay the bill saying the amount assessed was too high and that the tax unfairly targets car dealerships.
But yesterday Shelor paid the delinquent tax bill after the county treasurer placed a lien against the company's bank account.
