A Lynchburg man is under arrest and charged with the murder of a Rustburg woman.

Lynchburg Police say 34-year old Donna Lynn Whiteman was found slumped over her car's steering wheel Saturday.
She was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Officers arrested 19-year old Adrian Jerome Toler (Toe-lur) yesterday at his Lynchburg apartment, charging him with murder and firearms violations.
Police are still trying to determine what provoked the shooting.

Two people died over the weekend as a result of fires.
Lacy William Caul the third died yesterday when fire engulfed his Covington home at 333 Pine Street.
And, 33-year old Daniel Nelson died Friday night from a blaze that started in the basement of a home at 604 Newbern Road in Pulaski.
Another man, Garland Smith, suffered minor injuries in that fire.

It's sentencing day for the man who walked away from the Martinsville prison farm 25 years ago.

Alfred Martin served less than two days of a one year sentence for selling marijuana.
Last year, he was found living in Michigan and was returned to Virginia.
Martin pleaded guilty to escape charges less than a month ago.
Judge Charles Stone could force Martin to serve as many as five years on the escape charges.
He'll also have to serve the remainder of his original sentence.

The company wants to build the golf course in the city--as part of a private-public partnership.
The company would get all profits from the course for the first 40 years, then turn over ownership and management of the course to the city.

The Highland Group plans to put up most of the initial costs which are estimated to be from 16 to 20 million dollars.

A construction worker remains hospitalized in serious condition this morning after a chimney collapsed on him.

A Montgomery County Sheriff's deputy said workers were moving a home in Blacksburg yesterday when the chimney fell on top of Michael Gilbert.
It happened just before eight A-M along Jannell Road.
