A pair of ticket scalpers was convicted by a Roanoke judge today.
William Gray Turner, the Second, and Daniel L. Thomas each had to pay a fine, but they got their tickets back to next week's Elton John concert.
(------------)
[VO-NAT]

With the help of an ad in the newspaper, they lured vice squad officers to separate locations in the city.
In Turner's case, the deal was struck at the S-and-S cafeteria at Towers Mall.
[SUPER=03-Roanoke]

He thought he was going to get 900 dollars for four tickets... until he was arrested.
Thomas knew there was a city ordinance against re-selling tickets for more than their face value.
So he rejected the offer to meet at Towers. But he agreed to meet at Walmart on 220, thinking that was in the County. He was wrong, by about 400 yards.
There's no telling whether Turner and Thomas will attend the concert a week from Friday, or try again to sell the tickets... in Roanoke COUNTY, perhaps.

The scheme was discovered by several of Moomaw's co-workers.
Police say he has already paid back most of the money and plans to make full restitution.
