It's been a rough 24 hours for the University of Virginia Medical Center... not only has a Health Department investigation put the Center on federal probation... the report may also serve as fodder for a lawsuit over a 1995 baby switch at U-V-A.

The report by the state Health Department supports that.
A review team cited more than THREE DOZEN deficiencies in procedures at U-V-A, including careless and sloppy banding procedures in the maternity ward.
U-V-A has two months to fix the problems or risk losing its federal Medicare money.. Chief of Staff Thomas Massero says that work is already under way.

But it's more than just a blemish to the families involved.
Paula Johnson and her attorney have rejected a two million dollar out of court settlement from the state.. Cynthia Johnson says all this might have been avoided if U-V-A had owned up to the problem right from the beginning.
[SOT 10:19:36]

((CYNTHIA JOHNSON: THEY WERE MORE CONCERNED AT THE TIME WITH THEIR IMAGE THAN THEY WERE ABOUT WHAT THEY DID TO THESE LITTLE GIRLS AND I'M SORRY THEY ACTED THAT WAY AND I'M SORRY THAT I HAVE TO SUE THEM BUT THEY DON'T REALLY GIVE ME ANY CHOICE.))

Pulaski Police Chief Herb Cooley clearly doesn't want anyone else to have to go through what the man and woman injured yesterday are now dealing with.
At this point, no one knows if the needles the pair were punctured by were contaminated.
The woman was pricked when she stuck her finger inside the coin return of a pay phone at the Pulaski Walmart.
Police say the man was injured in the same manner---

The only difference is that the pay phone he was a using was at the Pulaski County Courthouse.
Both were treated at Pulaski Community hospital.
Right now, Pulaski police still don't know who's responsible.
In the meantime, Chief Cooley says he hopes parents talk to their children.

They're the characters on the children's T-V show. In the February edition of Falwell's National Liberty Journal, there's a warning to parents that "Tinky Winky" is gay. In case you're not familiar with the character, "Tinky Winky" is the rotund, purple, magic-bag-toting Teletubby with a triangular antenna. The article states purple is a gay-pride color, and the triangle is a gay-pride symbol. Falwell calls these "subtle depictions," but he believes they're intentional. But the company that holds the Teletubbies license calls the charges outlandish and absurd.

It was designed by engineers in Salem, who won an internal company award for their team effort.
G-E said its goal is to stabilize the factory's workload, so there's enough work to keep everyone busy at all times of the year.
