State Police statistics indicate 15 people died in traffic accidents last year along Interstate 81 in Roanoke County, Botetourt, Montgomery, and Rockbridge County.
Duffy said he hopes the initiative makes it clear officers will have zero tolerance for speeders and will enforce posted speed limits on a strict basis.

Another court defeat for Emmett Cressell Junior, this time over jail conditions.

U-S District Judge Samuel Wilson ruled yesterday that Cressell is not entitled to exercise and an education while he's in jail.
In December, Cressell sued for 500-thousand dollars, claiming discrimination because he's the only Grayson County jail inmate who cannot take G-E-D classes or use the jail's exercise bike.
Cressell is serving a life sentence for the July 19-97 slaying of Garnett Johnson and is awaiting transfer to a state prison.

Last week, we introduced you to Kandis Joyce, a nine-year old Martinsville girl who's undergoing treatment for leukemia at Duke University Medical Center.
Her best hope for a cure is a bone marrow transplant.

So yesterday in Martinsville, hundreds of people volunteered to become bone marrow donors.
After a simple blood test, they will be listed on a national registry and might one day save the life of someone with a deadly blood disease.
