Trent Green knew he was in for a big raise this year, he just didn't know how big.
Sunday night, the Washington Redskins offered the quarterback a four- year, twelve- million dollar contract-- quite a jump from last year's 250- thousand dollar salary.
But yesterday, Green turned it down and instead signed a four year, sixteen-and- a- half milion dollar deal with his hometown team, the St. Louis Rams.
Green's departure seemed to spell trouble for Washington since last week, the team released Gus Frerotte.
So the only quarterback left on the roster was 37- year- old career backup Jeff Hostetler.
