We've all seen the snowflakes today, but so far, the snow has created the most trouble and most accidents in Southwest Virginia.

90- year old Ora Lee Phillips was killed when the car she was riding in, crossed the center line and into the path of a van, this morning.
Phillips' daughter was behind the wheel and reportedly told police-- she lost control on snow covered Route 221, just outside the town of Floyd. [NAT SOUND]

Driving was also difficult for some motorists in neighboring Montgomery County.
Blacksburg police say the driver of this S-U-V lost control after hitting a slick spot underneath this overpass on Route 460..
It was also a trouble spot for other motorists... [NAT SOUND]

VDOT crews were out early applying salt and stone throughout the area.
But some school systems decided the roads were too risky.
Schools in Floyd, Carroll, Patrick and Grayson Counties all closed early...as well as schools in Martinsville.
But schools remained on schedule in Montgomery County.

A surprising conclusion to a federal lawsuit filed by the parents of a Staunton River Middle School student who took her own life four years ago.

Lisa Hall's parents sued Bedford County School officials and the guidance counselor who'd heard

that the 13-year old was suicidal but did not tell her parents.
Before the court rendered a ruling, however, Karen and Floyd Hall notified the judge that they'd decided "it is in everyone's best interest to withdraw the lawsuit."

Another local issue... the Character Counts program that teaches values to kids at Roanoke's Fallon Park Elementary School got House okay to be a model for other state schools.
And southwest cattle farmers won one amidst howls in the House.
The Delegates voted to place a bounty on the heads of coyotes.
It's already legal to kill coyotes... and about 28- hundred are killed each year in Virginia.
The bounty would pay hunters now to do the job.

Last night at the Salem Civic Center, Hampden-Sydney became only the second team in conference history tot win three straight men's ODAC tournament titles. The Tigers beat Randolph-Macon 73-61. T.J. Grimes 21 points earned him most valuable player honors.

Among the classes of cars that will be run on those nights are the Legends, Mini-Cups and the Enduros.

To attract customers to the newly-opened Sheetz Gas Station in New London, regular unleaded gas is selling for just 69 cents a gallon.
That's six cents cheaper than its neighbors.
Nationwide, the average price of all gasoline has dipped below one dollar for the first time in decades.
However, experts expect prices to increase again this spring.
