Judging from the letters to News-7 this week, many of our viewers were drawn to our special reports on the loss of jobs in the textile industry.

One of the segments dealt with consumers desires for affordable clothes, and the pressure that puts on companies to cut productions costs.
A viewer from Floyd responded: "...I believe you are selling the consumer short. At least this consumer short. I check the labels on almost everything I buy. I never buy from China unless it's my last choice, and sometimes I will forgo the purchase. If I can find a product that meets my needs and is made in the US I will buy it over less expensive brands made outside of the US...There are times you cannot find the product made in the US eg: electronics, try finding shoes or sneakers made here...When the gentleman said this evening that when you buy a product you are in essence 'voting' for products made there is not necessarily true. We just may not have a choice."
From Blacksburg, another viewer wrote: "Now, I'm not naive enough to think that Channel 7 isn't interested in ratings, but I do see a qualitative difference in the type of stories covered and in the manner in which they are presented. The recent story on 'Going South' is a case in point. It's the kind of meaningful local news/interest story that has a purpose other than titillating the viewer. I just wanted you to know it's appreciated...."
