Roanoke County Police want to know whey a truck driver left the scene of an overnight accident.

Police say it happened along Route 220 south near the Franklin County line when this truck ran off the road and struck some trees.
The driver was not at the scene when Police arrived.
Police dispatchers called the owner of the vehicle to find out what happened.
The driver claimed to fall asleep at the wheel.
Police at the scene say they think alcohol may be a factor.

A Supreme Court ruling concerning an Iowa student will have an impact on some local schools.

Yesterday the high court ruled that disabled students are entitled to one-on-one nursing care and that schools must foot the bill.
Currently, Roanoke County provides full-time aides for about 75 disabled students. Not all of the aides have the medical training required by the new law.
The number of students who need special assistance will determine future school budgets.

A Pittsylvania County teenager has been suspended from school for a year for trying to sell a gun on school property.
Officials found the 22-caliber revolver
last month at the Danville-Pittsylvania County Regional Alternative
School.
A teacher overheard the 17 year old student trying to sell a gun to another student in the bathroom.
Pittsylvania County Sheriff Harold Plaster said the student was charged with
possession or concealment of a handgun on school.
