Investigators also hope the public will be helpful in determining the couple's identity.
So, today they released the video tape that captured almost every second of the crime.

(( It was shortly before eight o'clock when the two entered the Comfort Inn Motel just off Interstate 81 in Fort Chiswell.
The man was carrying a shotgun and reportedly told the clerk he would NOT harm her if she agreed to hand over the cash.
Sheriff's investigators believe it's a crime the pair has committed before-- based on the fact they remained so calm and the robbery itself lasted less than two minutes.
And while the two did NOT conceal their identity-- they did wear gloves.

Another reason investigators are convinced the two aren't from this area is the close proximity of the motel to the interstate. [END SU]
Sheriff's officials say it would've been easy for someone passing through to commit the robbery and then quickly leave the area-- via Interstate 81 or 77.
As for the clerk-- she wasn't seriously injured.
But before the couple exited the motel the female suspect did spray the clerk in the eyes with pepper spray. Teresa Hamilton, NEWS 7, Wythe County. ))

State police and Smyth County investigators believe they've solved a nearly ten year old murder mystery.

They now suspect 36- year old Michael Reeves abducted, raped and murdered Betty Shumate in July of 1989.
Reeves is currently on death row in North Carolina.
At one time, Shumate's estranged husband was suspected of killing his wife.
But the charge was later dropped.

Lynchburg authorities have released the identity of a woman who died under suspicious circumstances last night.
44- year- old Margaret Steele Hawkins was found in her apartment at 11-04 Wise Street around 9 o'clock.
Police say she had suffered "trauma to her body," but they aren't sure what caused her death.
An autopsy is scheduled tomorrow.

State Troopers issued eight or nine times as many traffic tickets yesterday on Interstate-81... as they would have on an average day.

There were THREE times as many TROOPERS patrolling the highway.
They blanketed the Interstate from Winchester to Bristol... THIS time without warning... part of the stepped up enforcement plan ordered by Governor Gilmore.
In the area between Christiansburg and Lexington- -they handed out more than 300 traffic tickets during an eight-hour shift yesterday.
That compares to 35 or 40 tickets on a normal day.

Claiming he illegally placed a Shoney's "Big Boy" statue on the Star City Diner's roof.
The lawsuit said customers would be fooled into thinking the restaurant was a Shoney's.
Macher said he would sue Shoney's for insulting his customers.
The two parties eventually settled.

Macher still owns seven restaurants -- Spanky's restaurants.
And they apparently have their own problems.
This January, the holding company, Spanky's of Virginia, filed for chapter-seven bankruptcy.))

Pittsylvania County authorities are searching for a gang of robbers.
They held up a woman at gunpoint last night at her home on McDaniel Road in Java.
The Sheriff's Office is looking for four black men.
One of the suspects has been identified as 18- year old Antonio Graves.
Anyone with information about the robbery should call the Pittsylvania County Sheriff's Office.
