He is the former county officer who was fired for pepper spraying a 77 year old woman.

A chimney fire that got out of hand, heavily damaged a home in Montgomery County.

The fire broke out just before nine last night at a home on Gardner Road in the Lafayette section of the County.
Flames quickly spread from the chimney to the walls and attic.
About half of the house was damaged.
Firefighters believe the cause was accidental.

The man was carrying a shotgun and reportedly told the clerk he would NOT harm her if she agreed to hand over the cash.
Sheriff's investigators believe it's a crime the pair has committed before-- based on the fact they remained so calm and the robbery itself lasted less than two minutes.
And while the two did NOT conceal their identity-- they did wear gloves.

Another reason investigators are convinced the two aren't from this area is the close proximity of the motel to the interstate. [END SU]
Sheriff's officials say it would've been easy for someone passing through to commit the robbery and then quickly leave the area-- via Interstate 81 or 77.
As for the clerk-- she wasn't seriously injured.

State police and Smyth County investigators believe they've solved a nearly ten year old murder mystery.

They now suspect 36- year old Michael Reeves abducted, raped and murdered Betty Shumate in July of 1989.
Reeves is currently on death row in North Carolina.
At one time, Shumate's estranged husband was suspected of killing his wife.

Dr. Strasburger said telling children to "just say no" may work with eight year olds.
But, he discouraged parents from telling their teens NOT to have sex.
Rather, he said it's more helpful to encourage them to postpone it until they're older.
He also said studies have shown that teaching teens about sex will not make them more sexually active-just better informed.

She's FROM Franklin County... a 40-year old Probation and Parole officer based in Roanoke.

He's the officials fired for pepper spraying a 77 year old woman.
The report says Metcalf will be permitted to resign.

About half of the house was damaged.
Firefighters believe the cause was accidental.

Investigators don't believe the pair is from the Wythe county area because they did NOT take any measures to conceal their identity.
