Roanoke Mayor David Bowers got married yesterday.
It was a quiet civil ceremony at the Courthouse in Rocky Mount... an event that not even his closest friends and relatives knew about.

It looks like Roanoke County has reached a settlement with the officer fired for pepper spraying a 77 year old woman.

The case of Russell Metcalf went to a hearing last month, but now, the Roanoke Times reports the two sides have reached an agreement, one which will go on the books as a resignation, not a termination.
According to published reports, the agreement will be signed later today.

There were plenty of grins on Wall Street today when the market again opened in positive territory, heading toward the magic 10-thousand number.

But by mid morning, stocks were mixed.
Yesterday the Dow soared to 125 points, closing at a record 98-97.
The market was pushed along by new of higher oil stocks, and growing retail sales.
Possibly adding fuel to the market's fire is a better than expected inflation picture.
Today's Labor Department numbers show the Producer Price index fell four-tenths of one percent last month.
