Swiss psychiatrist Bertrand Piccard and British pilot Brian Jones have traveled farther and stayed aloft longer than anyone else has in a hot air balloon.

The success of the trip hinges on the balloon's fuel supply which Jones says is precarious.

If the fuel holds out, Piccard and Jones should cross the finish line tomorrow morning in northwest Africa.

The inherited disease prevents the body from clearing the lungs.
It's caused by a faulty gene that inhibits the movement of electrically charged atoms across cell membranes.
The experimental spray contains a healthy gene combined with a natural fat.
Researchers tried it on eight people with the disease. They showed a 25 percent improvement.
The lead investigator says more study is needed, but they think they're on the right track.
