A motorist drives by a house, sees someone shot to death outside, and calls for help.
That's what happened in Galax today, but before it was over, police found a second body .. INSIDE the home.
63 year old Carol Higgins was inside. 64 year old James Higgins was discovered outside.. both dead from gunshot wounds to the head. Police say the case is being handle as a homicide.

Federal investigators believe a plane crash that killed three area people four-and-a-half years ago was caused by a faulty rudder control valve.

Prosecutor Gino Williams believes the regional jail is a great concept but predicts it's going to cost the county more money than originally expected.

Many were under the impression the Floyd jail would simply close once the inmates were transferred.
But Williams says the Floyd jail is probably going to have to be renovated to make it handicap accessible.
The renovations are necessary because the county must have holding cells to keep inmates in while they're in court.

State and federal authorities have seized 58 home video tapes from a Roanoke County man who claims he's totally disabled.
They suspect Jesse Wayne Martin of insurance fraud.
According to documents filed today in federal Court, Martin managed to convince people he's a quadriplegic. He was convicted in 1992 of incest. But he never served time, because of his supposed medical condition.
However, police have had his house under surveillance for the past several months. They say they watched Martin lugging hay bales, wielding a sledge hammer and shoveling snow.
Martin received a lump sum insurance settlement of 670-thousand dollars in 1996.
Authorities believe the home videos will show Martin roller skating , among things.

Former Baltimore Orioles manager Cal Ripken Senior is gravely ill.
