After beating New Mexico, Fairfield and Alabama the team faced Notre Dame in the Finals.
The Irish had a 91-to-87 lead with 50 seconds to play when Tech came up the court looking to cut into the lead.
Bobby Stevens would hit this leaner and draw a foul with 43 seconds to go.
He got the basket, the free throw and the Notre dame lead down to one point.
The Irish hustled the ball across midcourt and when Gary Brokaw picked it up, Harrisonburg native Charlie Thomas fouled him to stop the clock with 18 seconds left in the game.
Irish coach Digger Phelps screamed at his team not to foul.
Then Brokaw went to the line - but the front end of his one and one chance bounces off and Tech brings the ball across midcourt and calls timeout with 12 seconds to go.
Don Devoe then watched him team pull off the impossible. We pick up the call from CBS Sports and Don Criqui. ((NAT SOUND))
