ITT Night Vision was awarded a nine- million dollar contract by the U-S Army today.

The Roanoke County company will produce an improved mount for attaching night vision goggles to infantry helmets. The new helmet mount eliminates "wobbling" and improves the vertical tilt, which is useful when a soldier is lying on the ground. ITT received a similar contract last September.
Taken together, the two deals make I-T-T the sole supplier of improved metal-helmet mounts for the Army.

A Rocky Mount window company will pay the Environmental Protection Agency 30-thousand-dollars for failing to report toxic chemicals.

M-W Windows failed to tell the E-P-A three years ago that it was using chemicals - -when applied in high quantities- -can cause nerve damage.
The company's 68-thousand-dollar fine has been cut in half by way of a settlement.

A northwest Roanoke house fire is under investigation tonight.

The house at 32 Frances Drive caught fire late this afternoon.
No one was home or injured in the blaze.
Investigators are trying to determine if the fire started inside or outside the house.
The back of the house was burned, leading firefighters to speculate that burning debris fell out of a window. Or something out of the house may have sparked the fire.
