When the store swap is complete, Harris Teeter will sell all of its western Virginia stores, except one in Danville, to Kroger.
Kroger will sell 10 stores in North Carolina to Harris Teeter.
That puts more of each company in the regions where they do well ...
But in some places, it gives Kroger more stores than retail analyst Ken Gassman says the company can handle.

Kroger said it is "evaluating" its stores, and as of today doesn't plan to close any of them.
The Virginia Harris Teeters will shut down for about a week to restock, then reopen as Krogers sometime in the middle of May.

Lynchburg's first capital murder trial in six years has just wrapped up.

A jury found 19- year- old Dale Lee Pughsley (PUGS-lee) guilty of SECOND degree murder, and recommended a total sentence of 53 years.
Pughsley was charged with the shooting death of David W. Robertson last year, in what police believe was a drug deal gone bad.
Prosecutor Mike Doucette says he's satisfied with the outcome.. sentencing is set for May 14th.

A Martinsville woman has admitted she beat an elderly Roanoke County man to death two years ago.

Barbara Jean Anderson was set to go on trial next week in the death of James Beane.
But she decided to plead guilty today, to first degree murder.
Anderson beat the 88-year-old man with an iron poker, at his home near Cave Spring Corner.
She'll be sentenced next month.

The site has been overwhelmed with people looking for information about their local schools-- such as S-O-L test scores, attendance rates and teacher certification.
But even if a school has low test scores, one local administrator says that's not necessarily a sign that children there are getting a poor education.

Agents spent the day searching for 77-year-old Nellie Bradner. She apparently wandered away from her husband on Main Street in Chatham yesterday afternoon. Late today a chopper pilot radioed that he had seen someone matching Bradner's description. Ground crews are on their way to confirm that the woman IS Bradner - she appears to be fine.

A 12-year-old boy was released from the hospital, with injuries from a fight at school. The student at James Madison Middle School was assaulted yesterday by two boys aged 14 and 15. The victim had a black eye.
This morning the boy was admitted to Community Hospital's intensive care unit for what his father says were internal injuries. The other boys have been charged with assault. Commonwealth's attorney may decide to upgrade the charges. School officials say the boy is fine, and that the fight was blown out of proportion.
